About Us
Our aim at REIMED is to become the leading Site Management Organisation (“SMO”) in the country with particular reference to transformation, empowerment, capacity building, competence and training.
We undertake therefore to:
Build the capacity of the role players who conduct clinical trials
Empower previously disadvantaged medical scientist to participate in clinical research. Ensure diversification of clinical research sites to include public and private sites.
Educate the public about clinical trials. Improve the recruitment of potential trial participants. Assist in clinical research and development of innovative products in medicine. It is our view that a more diverse pool of clinical trial sites will ensure continuation and sustainability of clinical research projects in South Africa.
Under the guidance of the board and executive leadership of Dr. A. C. Wilhase, a veteran in the clinical trials field, REIMED has already established four trial sites and will continue to transform and build capacity in areas previously ignored.
We concur with the South African Health Professions Regulatory Authority (“SAHPRA”) document entitled “Capacity Building and Transformation in Clinical Trials Research in South Africa” in numerous respects, including that a more diverse pool of Clinical Research Sites (“CRS”) reflective of South African society is imperative to the sustainability of clinical research in the country.

Dr Wilhase obtained the undergraduate degree of MB.BCH from the University of the Witwatersrand in 1992. She became a Member of Family Physicians in October 2007 and completed the Masters of Family Medicine in 2011 at the University of Witwatersrand.
